Search Engine Optimization:
Effective Use of Title Tags

Title tags is text that appears at the top of your web browser.  On a search result, it is the first thing that search engines show web searchers about your site.  It is also the link that your potential clients click to reach your site from a search result.  Search engines use the webpage titles to determine page relevance with respect to the information on that page.

The following are some quick tips on the effective use of title tags.  Keep in mind that different search engines utilize different algorithms, so there is no such thing as the perfect title.

When developing your title tags:

  1. Create a separate title tag specific for each page.
  2. Use multiple keywords placing the words you wish to target the most at or near the beginning of your page title tag.
  3. Keep title tags between 40 - 60 characters.
  4. Avoid using salutations and common words such as "welcome to..." or "home page."
  5. Limit the number of one or two letter words such as "a" and "or."
  6. You can repeat important words once, but make sure they are not right next to each other.

Editing the title tags on your NextClient website is easy!

  1. Once you've logged into your Custom WebExpress editing control panel, go to editing mode by clicking on the "Edit Pages" button.
  2. Then click on the "Manage Pages" tab.
  3. On the menu tree on the left, click on the page you want to edit.
  4. Enter your new title on the "Browser Title Bar Name" field.
  5. Click the "Submit Change" button.
  6. To take your changes live, click the "Publish to Web" tab and click the "Confirm" button when prompted.

You have just completed an important step in optimizing your website for search engines.

Content Matters:
Customize Your Website Content

We would like to remind NextClient website subscribers that the content that initially appears on your Custom WebExpress™ website is meant to be a placeholder for your firm's own text.  This includes the Welcome text, slogan text, and page titles (see our SEO Tip on title tags above).  At last review, there are many NextClient websites with boilerplate welcome and slogan text that has yet to be changed!

All NextClient websites come with an easy-to-use editing system.  Use your login information and change your content often to keep it fresh and compelling for your web visitors.

If you would like assistance in creating custom content that is specifically written for your firm, we have several value-oriented services that may suit your needs.  Feel free to contact me for details.

We'd like to keep you up to date on the latest NextClient products, news and events via this NextClient Alert! email newsletter.  If, however, you'd like to stop receiving them, you can unsubscribe at any time.
